THE brides-to-be at Melanie Bowman’s boutique are trying on more than a wedding dress.
Buried in the folds of tulle, lace and satin is a story. Usually it’s a tale of joy, sometimes it is one of superstition and other times, cold-headed pragmatism. And some dresses are haunted by heartbreak.
The gowns Ms Bowman sells are second-hand. It’s a growing market, especially online, where creations by the likes of Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta sell for less than half the original price.
